2008 WATER QUALITY REPORT
FOR
City of Hull

This report contains important information regarding the water quality in our water system. The source of our water is
groundwater. Our groundwater is drawn from the alluvial aquifer(s).

Our water quality testing shows the following
results:
Note: Contaminants with dates indicate results from the most recent testing done in accordance with regulations.

DEFINITIONS
•  Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) – The highest level of a contaminant that is allowed in drinking water. MCLs are
set as close to the MCLGs as feasible using the best available treatment technology.
•  Maximum Contaminant Level Goal (MCLG) -- The level of a contaminant in drinking water below which there is no
known or expected risk to health. MCLGs allow for a margin of safety.
•  ppb -- parts per billion.
•  ppm -- parts per million.
•  pCi/L – picocuries per liter
•  N/A – Not applicable
•  ND -- Not detected
•  Treatment Technique (TT) – A required process intended to reduce the level of a contaminant in drinking water.
•  Action Level ( AL ) – The concentration of a contaminant which, if exceeded, triggers treatment or other requirements
which a water system must follow.
•  Maximum Residual Disinfectant Level Goal (MRDLG) - The level of a drinking water disinfectant below which there is
no known or expected risk to health. MRDLGs do not reflect the benefits of the use of disinfectants to control microbial
contaminants.
•  Maximum Residual Disinfectant Level (MRDL) - The highest level of a disinfectant allowed in drinking water. There is
convincing evidence that addition of a disinfectant is necessary for control of microbial contaminants.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Drinking water, including bottled water, may reasonably be expected to contain at least small amounts of some
contaminants. The presence of contaminants does not necessarily indicate that water posed a health risk. More
information about contaminants or potential health effects can be obtained by calling the Environmental Protection
Agency's Safe Drinking Water Hotline (800-426-4791).

Some people may be more vulnerable to contaminants in drinking water than the general population. Immuno-
compromised persons such as persons with cancer undergoing chemotherapy, persons who have undergone organ
transplants, people with HIV/AIDS or other immune system disorders, some elderly, and infants can be particularly at
risk from infections. These people should seek advice about drinking water from their health care providers. EPA/CDC
guidelines on appropriate means to lessen the risk of infection by Cryptosporidium and other microbial contaminants
are available from the Safe Drinking Water Hotline (800-426-4791).

CONTAMINANT Violations
Total Coliform. Coliforms are bacteria which are naturally present in the environment and are used as an indicator that
other, potentially-harmful bacteria may be present. Coliforms were found in more samples than allowed and this was
a warning of potential problems.

Fecal coliform/ E.Coli . Fecal coliform and E. Coli are bacteria whose presence indicates that the water may be
contaminated with human or animal wastes. Microbes in these wastes can cause short-term effects, such as
diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches, or other symptoms. They may pose a special health risk for infants, young
children, and people with severely compromised immune systems.

ADDITIONAL HEALTH INFORMATION

OTHER VIOLATIONS
In November 2005, we failed to meet Certified Operator Requirements. Adverse health effects, if any, are not known.
Monitoring procedures have been corrected to avoid future violations.

SOURCE WATER ASSESSMENT INFORMATION
The Rock Valley Rural Water Supply obtains its water from the alluvial aquifer. The alluvial aquifer was determined to
be highly susceptible to contamination because the characteristics of the aquifer and overlying materials allow
contaminants to move through the aquifer fairly quickly. The wells will be most susceptible to activities such as dry
cleaners, gas stations, industrial sites, and municipal wastewater dischargers. A detailed evaluation of your source
water was completed by the IDNR, and is available from City of Hull Water System at 712-439-1555.

month at 5:00 p.m. at the Hull City Council Chambers and are open to the public.
Water
Provided by the city. All water is monitored by water meters. Each customer will pay for water service that is determined
by meters that will be read every month. The monthly rates are as follows:
Gallons Used Per Month
Rate
Base Fee
$15.00
Per Gallon Used
$3.50 per 1,000 gallons
Billing-bills will be issued on or before the 25th day of each month. Bills will be payable by the 8th day of the following
month. Late payments will have a penalty of $5.00

Discontinued service-service will be discontinued after the customer has been notified that they are delinquent. Such
notice will be sent by ordinary mail and shall inform the customer when the water will be turned off. All discontinued
service will be assessed a $20.00 shut off fee and a $20.00 fee to turn the water service back on.

Water Deposit-all rentals and trailor homes will be required to pay a $150.00 deposit before their water is turned on in
the premises.

Sewer
The city provides a sanitary sewer system that is regulated by the state concerning the treatment and disposal of
sanitary sewage within the city in order to protect the public health safety and welfare of all residents. Sewer Rates are
as follows:

$11.00 base fee. $1.00 per 1,000 gallons -- 10,000 gallon maximum

The city will be responsible for the central mains to be cleaned and clear of any blockage. It is the resident's
responsibility for the sewer that runs from the house to the main. If you have a plugged line, please call your local
plumber.
Digging
NOTE: If you plan on doing any digging on your property, please call Iowa One-Call at 1-800-292-8989. One Call is the
service that coordinates a location marking system for underground utilities.
